VBScript isn't going to help you tail and grep like commands, but Powershell should be able to help you, which should be fine, since you can use it on any modern Windows version.

Here's an article on using Get-Content with tail and wait parameters. It should help you continue to monitor a file for changes, but as you say, you still need to look for certain keywords, so you probably have to study the log for a bit first. Although findstr can parse with regular expressions, I think when it comes to text parsing, choosing powershell is betting on the best horse.
